The Upper East Regional Police Command has seized about 500 cartons of assorted brands of Tramadol in an intelligence-led operation at Widana in the Upper East Region.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, by personnel from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) and the Operational Team, code-named “Black Cobra”.
The seizure followed a month-long intelligence-gathering exercise targeting the activities of suspected drug dealers operating in the area.
According to the police, the suspected illicit drugs were recovered from a privately operated warehouse and several individual residences during the operation.
Burkinabe national arrested
One suspect, identified as 21-year-old Abdul Ali, a Burkinabe national, was arrested during the operation.
He is currently assisting the police with investigations.
Preliminary intelligence gathered by the police indicates that the suspected network involved in importing the drugs may include foreign nationals from Mali, Togo, Burkina Faso and Senegal.
The police believe Widana is being used as a transit and distribution point for the suspected illicit drugs.
The Upper East Regional Police Command has since commenced further investigations to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of being connected to the network.
