Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin sues Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), alongside media organisation Multimedia Group Limited over alleged defamatory statements.
The legal battle stems from comments made during the August 22, 2026 edition of Newsfile, a major current affairs program on Joy FM hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini. The Minority Leader is seeking GH¢15 million in financial damages following severe extortion allegations broadcast against him.
Addressing Parliament during an emergency sitting, Afenyo-Markin revealed that he opted to take immediate legal action rather than engaging in a public media spat over the accusations.
“In the face of the allegations of extortion levelled against me, I have chosen to take the high moral ground by submitting myself to the processes of the law,” he told lawmakers on the floor of the House.
