Mahama dissolves boards of nine state institutions

President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the boards of nine state-owned institutions with immediate effect, the Presidency said on Wednesday, September 2.

The decision affects entities spanning several strategic areas of Ghana’s economy, including petroleum, mining, housing, banking, infrastructure and sports.

The institutions are Prestea Sankofa Gold Limited, Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited (CBG), Ghana Post Company Limited, the Road Maintenance Trust Fund, TDC Ghana Limited, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the National Sports Authority (NSA).

The Presidency has directed the relevant sector ministers to take the necessary steps to implement the dissolution, in accordance with the laws and governing instruments applicable to each institution.

The move does not, however, amount to the permanent removal of the institutions’ governance structures.

According to the Presidency, the boards will be reconstituted in due course, with new members expected to be appointed to provide oversight and direction.

The changes come as the government continues to reshape the leadership of key state institutions, many of which play significant roles in the country’s economic and public infrastructure.
