A lighter moment during parliamentary proceedings brought one of Ghana’s notable political couples into the spotlight when it was highlighted that Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga is married to a sitting Member of Parliament, Millicent Amankwah Yeboah.
The revelation unfolded on Thursday, August 27, during the vetting of the Bawku Central MP before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for his nomination as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
When Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor introduced Ayariga’s father-in-law to the room without introducing his daughter—who was seated quietly among the nominee’s supporters—Ayariga playfully intervened.
“Mr. Chairman, you have introduced the father-in-law, but you haven’t introduced the daughter,” Ayariga remarked, prompting laughter across the committee room.
Chairman Ahiafor promptly corrected the omission: “We have the spouse, Hon. Mrs. Ayariga, formerly known as Hon. Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, a Member of Parliament here in our midst.”
Who is Millicent Amankwah Yeboah?
Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, 34, is the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, serving on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). She secured the seat in the December 2024 general elections after unseating the long-serving NPP MP, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah.
Prior to entering Parliament, she established a professional career across business management and corporate consultancy. She previously served as a branch manager for Verna Mineral Water and as the Managing Director of MEA Connect Consultants.
Her academic background includes qualifications from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana and the University of Law in the United Kingdom. In the Ninth Parliament, she serves as a member of the Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions Committee.
