Police Arrest Officer Captured Assaulting Suspect in Viral Video

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, who was captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting another suspect.

According to the Police, Zakaria is currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be put before the court.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the Police Service said its Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) had commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Service said all persons found culpable after the investigation would be subjected to the appropriate disciplinary processes.

The Police had earlier condemned the incident and assured the public that efforts were being intensified to identify, arrest and prosecute the individual involved.

The latest development follows the circulation of the video showing the alleged assault, which generated public concern and renewed calls for accountability within the Police Service.

The Police did not provide further details about the location where the incident occurred or the circumstances that led to the alleged assault.

However, reports suggest that the incident may have occurred at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) premises.

The Police Service said the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the appropriate action against anyone found culpable.
