Reshuffle Announcement: Ken Adjei Takes Over Defence, Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings Nominated as Environment Minister, Ayariga for Local Government
Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, has been nominated for appointment as Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology during President John Dramani Mahama’s first reshuffle in his second term. Additionally, Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and the current Majority Leader in Parliament, has been nominated for the position of Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs. This reshuffle follows President Mahama’s decision to change two ministers and appoint two new ones after one year and eight months in his second term. As part of these changes, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned from the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence. Adjei previously served as Deputy Minister of Defence during President Mahama’s first term from May 2015 to January 6, 2017.Moreover, Ahmed Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for Banda, has been moved from the Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs Ministry to the Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources.These changes were announced in a statement issued on Friday afternoon (August 7) by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson for the President, who also serves as Minister of State in charge of Government Communications. The reshuffle aligns with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, aimed at filling the vacancies left by Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Dr Murtala Mohammed, who tragically died in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. The nominations of Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings and Mahama Ayariga have been submitted to Parliament for approval before their official appointment.
