Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to all internal factions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite and rally behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking during a courtesy call in Accra on Wednesday, August 26, from Dennis Miracles Aboagye—who officially presented his filing for the NPP National Communications Director position—Akufo-Addo emphasised that party unity will be the decisive factor in securing victory in the 2028 general elections.
“The elections breed competition; when the die is cast on October 1, I am confident you will win,” Akufo-Addo stated. “You have to bring everybody on board and unite all factions in this party behind our flagbearer to make sure he gets onto the seat in 2029.”
The former President noted that rebuilding the party’s communications strategy is essential for their electoral comeback, stressing that winning the 2028 elections remains an absolute priority for the opposition.
NPP Prepares for National Executive Elections
The internal appeal comes as the NPP prepares for its national executive elections, scheduled for October 3, 2026.
According to the party’s National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), 50 nomination forms were purchased across nine national officer positions before nominations officially closed on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The committee confirmed that the process has proceeded peacefully as completed forms undergo submission and verification ahead of the upcoming vetting process.
