The Ministry of Finance has moved to clarify the status of salary payments to 6,300 newly posted staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES), confirming that all staff inherited by the government in 2025 have been paid.
The Ministry said there are currently no outstanding requests for financial clearance from the GES awaiting action by the Finance Ministry.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Unit, the Ministry said it had taken note of an appeal by the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the Ghana Education Service over alleged outstanding salary arrears and wished to clarify its position.
According to the Ministry, the government inherited 6,300 GES staff in 2025 who had been recruited in 2024 without the required financial clearance. To address the resulting salary-payment concerns, the Ministry said it secured Cabinet approval and subsequently issued the necessary financial clearance to facilitate payment in four tranches.
The Ministry stressed that there are no outstanding requests from the GES for financial clearance that remain pending before it.
It said any staff member who continues to have an unresolved salary or arrears issue should contact the Ghana Education Service directly, as such cases may relate to payroll or other administrative matters rather than pending financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.
The clarification comes amid renewed concerns from affected staff over delayed salaries and arrears. The Ministry’s position is that the financial clearance required to regularise the affected appointments has already been provided and that any remaining individual cases should now be addressed through the GES’s payroll and administrative processes.
