Nana Ama McBrown Calls for Greater Support for Ghana Movie Awards

Actress and television host Nana Ama McBrown has called for greater support for the Ghana Movie Awards after winning the Favourite Actress category at the 15th edition of the awards ceremony.

Speaking during her acceptance speech at the event, held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on June 8, 2026, McBrown expressed excitement over the return of the awards platform, noting that the Ghanaian film industry had missed such a gathering for several years.

“Hi, good evening, good morning. I’m just coming back from TV, and as you know, every Sunday I am busy, but this is an important event I cannot miss. For so many years we’ve missed this gathering, and I’m so happy I’m here,” she said.

The celebrated actress thanked the organisers for recognising her work, admitting that she had not expected to win the award.

She also urged industry stakeholders, sponsors and creatives to support the Ghana Movie Awards to ensure its continued growth and sustainability.

“Congratulations to everyone, and I wasn’t expecting this. Thank you, Ghana Movie Awards, and from now on I think that this is for us, and for that matter, all that we have to do is support it — the organisers and everyone. Fred, you know I have many sponsors,” McBrown said.

She further pledged her willingness to contribute to efforts aimed at sustaining the awards scheme and strengthening Ghana’s film industry.

“Come around, let’s sit down and see how this goes on and on. Thank you so much,” she added.

The 15th edition of the Ghana Movie Awards brought together some of the biggest names in Ghana’s film and entertainment industry for an evening dedicated to celebrating excellence in African cinema.

The ceremony recognised outstanding performances and achievements across several categories, while highlighting the resilience and continued development of Ghana’s movie industry.
